Ministry Groups

Adoration Chapel

 

This ministry is performed by adults who raise funds for the needs of the chapel, make sure the chapel and its grounds are maintained and assure that the chapel is attended 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Adoration Chapel itself provides for any individual, young or old to come any time to adore Jesus in his presence in the Eucharist. It is a place of quiet peace, healing and intercession. The chapel is in need of adorers to sign up for specific hours, to assure that there is continual adoration. Cenacle of Our Lady

Meets weekly, on Thursday evenings in the Nelson Center to pray for priests and needs of the Church. They especially pray the Rosary. For more information please contact Charlotte Starbuck: 325-928-4707

Dolly Smith Religious Store

Provided by the women of Sacred Heart. Lovely religious articles, pamphlets, and books are for sale, as well as gifts for Confirmation and First Communion. Hearts in One Accord Prayer Group

 

A city-wide charismatic prayer group, meeting weekly to lift up the name of Jesus in Praise, worship, testimony, teaching and ministry to one another. As members gather together each week, they continue to grow in wisdom and understanding as they exercise their faith in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jail Ministry

This ministry is to men and women incarcerated in the county jail. Both men and women are needed to visit, pray with and evangelize. Applications are accepted at the jail and a background check required. For more information please contact Terry Lopez: 325-829-0570

Knights of Columbus

Legion of Mary

A special group of men and women, in the parish that belongs to a world-wide organization. They visit in homes, hospitals, the jail; and other good works assigned by the Pastor. They are committed to two hours of apostolic work each week, together with another legionary work assigned by the president. Active membership requires prior orientation and probation before attendance at a meeting. Little Saints Early Childhood Center

 

Little Saints is a ministry at Sacred Heart that offers five day program for all children, along with two and three day programs. It is a place which offers toddlers and preschool children an opportunity to receive children's Catholic ministry at their age appropriate level.  During their time with our certified Pre-K teachers, they will develop social skills, motor skills and much more. Loaves and Fishes 

The Loaves and Fishes of Sacred Heart Church is the only Catholic food pantry in Abilene. Open to the public Tuesday 1:00-3:00 pm Loaves and Fishes provides assistance with food and necessities for those in need. For more information or to volunteer please contact Mary Ellen Migliore: 325-829-7947

Nursery

This ministry provides care for the infants and pre-school kids of our parish. It is provided during 9:30 mass and 11:30 mass on Sundays-- and also, at other times when necessary. The nursery is also available on Thursday evenings during Christian Initiation and for teachers and aides during regularly scheduled RE classes. Nursery Manager: Candy DeLaGarza 325-518-2819

Prison Ministry

This ministry is to men incarcerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice- Robertson and Middleton Units in Hamby (just outside of Abilene). Only adult men are allowed to minister at the Robertson Unit. Both men and women are allowed to minister at the Middleton Unit. Texas Department of Criminal Justice provides the required training for there ministries. Sacred Heart Men's Group

 

All men in the Parish are invited to meet to discuss "men's issues" and to plan and implement service projects in the Parish The meetings are held monthly, on the first Thursday evening of each month, from 7:00 pm until 9:00. For more information please contact Gary Collins 325-518-7066

St. Vincent de Paul Society

 

A ministry provides food to those in need. It is a very special opportunity to love and touch those who are hungry for love as well as for food. Adults and youth are needed to donate hours to the Food Bank, which helps provide food to the pantry. Also they are needed at Loaves and Fishes to help sort, pack boxes, research the needs of the people coming, and to help carry boxes of food. Women of Sacred Heart

All women in the parish are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings. They plan various activities, often serving as hostesses for important events. They also enjoy speakers from time to time and grow in fellowship with one another. The group also offers a college scholarship to a deserving high school graduate in the parish. Their major fund raiser is an annual Christmas Bazaar. Meeting are held the first Monday of each month, at 7:00 pm in the Kessler Bldg.
